Conroe Police Officer Arrested for Bank Robbery
HOUSTON, TX—A Conroe Police sergeant has been charged with bank robbery, acting United States Attorney Tim Johnson, FBI Special Agent in Charge Andrew R. Bland III and Conroe Police Chief Charlie Ray announced today.
Sgt. Michael Tindall, a 23-year veteran of the Conroe Police Department, was arrested by FBI agents on March 24, 2009, and stands charged with one count of bank robbery. The federal criminal complaint, unsealed following Tindall’s arrest, accuses Tindall of robbing the First Bank of Conroe in Conroe, Texas, on Aug. 11, 2008. The complaint alleges that while off duty but monitoring a police radio, Tindall walked into the bank wearing a white motorcycle helmet, demanded money from the tellers and left with more than $28,000.
Tindall is expected to make his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate in Houston on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A conviction for bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
The charge is a result of an ongoing seven-month investigation conducted by members of the FBI and the Conroe Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kebharu H. Smith.
A complaint is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
