(LAREDO, Texas) – An employee of a Laredo laboratory convicted of falsifying lab reports submitted to the U.S. Probation Office has been sentenced to prison, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.
Santos Vasquez, 48, of Laredo, an employee of a laboratory which contracts with the United States Probation Office to collect and test urine samples for drugs, was sentenced today to 30 months in federal prison, without parole, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. During the first 15 months of his term of supervised release, U.S. District Judge George P. Kazen has ordered Vasquez to perform 150 hours of community service. Judge Kazen handed down the sentence Friday, Feb. 8, 2008.
Vasquez, who pleaded guilty to Making a False Statement to a Federal Agency Jan. 29, 2008, conceded he had accepted cash from federal probationers to submit false court ordered urinalysis reports to the U.S. Probation office in exchange for cash.
The investigation leading to criminal conviction and sentence was conducted by Special Agents of the Laredo Office of the FBI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gary Cobe and Roberto Ramirez.
