On November 4, 2009, Director Robert Mueller helped dedicate the new, environmentally-friendly Houston FBI Office in a ceremony that was attended by local law enforcement and community leaders. Shown above, with Mueller, are (left to right) Special Agent in Charge Richard Powers, Acting District Director George Prochaska from the General Services Administration, Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell, and soloist Karen Taylor. FBI Assistant Director Patrick Findlay, Facilities and Logistics Services Division, is behind the podium. Construction on the 305,438-square-foot building began in 2001, a project that involved more than 5,000 people in the design and construction of the facility. It houses more than 600 FBI employees, task force officers, and contractors. The reason the new building was needed? According to Mueller, “We did not just need more room for to work—we needed more room for our partners in federal, state, and local law enforcement to work. We did not just need more physical space—we needed more secure physical space. And we did not just need basic technological capabilities—we needed strong, secure technology to help us meet our mission.” [More of Director Mueller’s remarks] |
